03-palmadula: the Nuraghe Palmadula is a village built with stone by
pre-historic Sardinians 3500 years ago, when most Europeans (not to mention
Americans or Australians! :-) lived in wooden huts or caves. Nuraghe is the
generic name of the main stone tower, in the middle of the village. There
are about 8000 all over Sardinia. This one is not the largest one but one of
the oldest.
The people who built the Nuraghes were sweeped away by the Romans who took
power over Sardinia around 300 BC but their civilization was already forlorn
when the Romans landed on the island.
